"The Christian in Political Life"
We, members of Catholic Action and Parliamentarians gathered in the Group of Members and Supporters of the Light-Life Movement, Catholic Action and the Association of Catholic Families, gathered in the building of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland at the conference entitled "A Christian in Political Life". "A Christian in Political Life," recognizing politics as a concern for the common goodWe wish to take an active part in the social and political life of the country, in accordance with our skills and competence, position and function, placing particular emphasis on a dignified ethical attitude.
We recognize the necessity of our commitment to promoting Christian values in the public sphere in order to uphold the universal moral principles taught and defended by the Church, were practiced on a daily basis and translated into the legal order. In this context, we see the need to form consciences and imbue private, professional and public life with Gospel values.
We wish to do this by giving individual witness to our lives in accordance with the Gospel and by striving to legislate in the spirit of the social teachings of the Catholic Church. In a special way, we will be concerned about the marriage and family so threatened today.
Our homeland today faces many difficult social, economic and political problems. They must be solved wisely and persistently in a spirit of solidarity and social responsibility. The basic problem remains the matter of preserving the moral order, which is the foundation of the life of every man and society.
Poland needs people of conscience!
The voice of a properly formed conscience can sometimes be difficult and demanding. Thus, it will expect from us courage and perseverance in defending the good and determination in opposing evil, according to the words of St. Paul: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good". (Rom 12:21).
