The celebration of the Marshal's Guard

The Speaker of the Sejm of the 8th term Marek Kuchciński took part in ceremonies on the occasion of the Marshal's Guard Day.

The law establishing the Speaker's Guard as a uniformed service came into force in 2018, establishing the Speaker's Guard holiday on May 20. Among the new tasks of the Guard were: conducting pyrotechnic and radiological reconnaissance of persons, vehicles, areas and facilities of the Sejm and the Senate. The Guard is subordinate to the Speaker of the Sejm and at the same time it is an organizational unit of the Chancellery of the Sejm.

The Marshal Guard is the youngest uniformed formation in Poland, but its traditions date back to the First Republic and the times of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, when soldiers subordinate to the Marshal ensured order and security for the king and parliamentarians around the place where the Sejm was sitting. Soldiers of the Marshal's Guard were appointed from among the Hungarian military flags and wore the uniforms of the Hungarian infantry.

The ceremony was attended by Marshal of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek, Speaker of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki and Vice-Marshals of the Sejm Małgorzata Gosiewska and Ryszard Terlecki.
