Meeting of the Speaker of the Sejm with the Speaker of the Knesset

Relations between the Polish Sejm and the Knesset are developing in a positive direction. Parliaments are increasingly important in diplomacy, as both Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchcinski and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein emphasized. "Governments come and go, but relationships remain," Edelstein pointed out.

The Warsaw meeting focused on strengthening relations between parliaments, development of Polish-Israeli economic and tourist cooperation, as well as fighting mutual stereotypes.

Marshal Kuchciński emphasized the need to develop not only historical tourism, but also tourism to the places connecting Poland and Israel for hundreds of years, to get to know a different dimension, not only of the Holocaust.

According to the Speaker, Israel is one of the most modern countries in the world, so it is beneficial for Poland to cooperate in the field of modern technologies. - I will give my support to those parliamentarians who will be interested in this kind of cooperation," Kuchciński said. According to the Speaker, cooperation between the Economy and Development, Sports, Tourism and European Union Committees, as well as at the level of Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees should also be developed.

Another issue raised was the security of Central Europe and cooperation with countries that regained their independence 28 years ago. - Development would be incomplete without Israel's participation. Jews played a major role in all these countries. He suggested involving Knesset representatives in Central and Eastern Europe. - In this way we want to build the foundations of positive cooperation between nations, despite the religious, territorial, national, administrative and other borders that divide them - he said. - We note that for many years Russia has been trying to extend its domination over the countries that made up the Soviet Union. The annexation of Crimea is evidence of this. We do not want to be an element of conflict, we are interested in supporting actions that build peace," Kuchciński stressed. The fight against anti-Semitism and aggression on the Internet, as announced by the speakers of the Knesset, the Sejm and the Senate, is also a part of the activities building peace and good relations between the countries.

The Speaker of the Knesset came to Warsaw at the invitation of the Speaker of the Sejm. On Friday in Cracow they participated in the ceremony of awarding the Righteous Among the Nations medals https://marekkuchcinski.pl/wydarzenia/medal-sprawiedliwy-wsrod-narodow-swiata-obowiazek-pamietac/  During his visit to the Sejm, Edelstein also laid flowers in front of a plaque commemorating parliamentarians who died in the Smolensk catastrophe, as well as a plaque dedicated to Members of Parliament of the Second Republic and victims of World War II.
