Professor Zbigniew Brzeziński actively supported democratic movements in Central Europe and the Polish Solidarity movement. Also in later years he never refused to support Polish causes in America," said Speaker Marek Kuchciński during the 43rd sitting of the Sejm.
Humanistic values, the ethos of service and authentic patriotism brought from home shaped him for life," stressed Marshal Kuchciński. As he said, Brzeziński actively supported democratic movements in Central Europe, including the Polish Solidarity movement. He also lent his support to Poland in later years," he noted. Kuchciński reminded that the funeral of Prof. Zbigniew Brzeziński, the chairman of the National Security Council in President Carter's administration, will be held on Friday in Washington. MPs observed a minute of silence in memory of Brzezinski.
As he emphasized, despite living in the United States, Brzezinski never lost touch with his homeland. This was not altered by his later interest in international affairs and his distinguished academic and political career in North America. The Speaker also stressed that Brzezinski's voice was respected by many world leaders, even after his retirement from active politics.
Professor Brzezinski, chairman of the National Security Council in the Carter administration (1977-1981), Sovietologist and university lecturer, died May 26 at the age of 89.
From 1935 to 1938, he lived and attended elementary school in Przemyśl (along with the current Speaker of the Sejm).
