Podkarpacie surprised archaeologists

In recent days two extraordinary archaeological discoveries have been made in Podkarpacie: the first one in Kalwaria Pacławska during construction works in the monastery complex, the second one - in connection with expansion of the voivodeship road from Przemyśl to the country border.

Calvary of Paclawska is a beautiful land. And as picturesque as it is mysterious. Beneath the earth's surface it hides archaeological gems, which were found on the territory of the Monastery of the Discovery of the Cross of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual (Franciscans). These are the relics of the stone walls (with brick and stone fragments), most probably the foundations of the foundation built on the initiative of Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro in the 17th century as a foundation for the monastery.

It is planned to uncover the entire discovery during further archaeological investigations. The location of the first monastery foundation was not known in detail. The excavation therefore confirmed the earlier assumptions of the Franciscans. It is interesting to find a common coin of John Casimir (so called boratine) in the foundations, between the stones.

In Malhowice, in turn, a settlement was found, probably from the late Roman influence period. The planned investment under the name: "Expansion of the provincial road No. 885 Przemyśl - Hermanowice - State Border" is partly located in the area of the archaeological site No. 9, which is listed in the records as a settlement from the Neolithic period, Bronze Age and early Iron Age and late Roman influence period.

Andrzej Maksymilian Fredro of Pleszowice, coat of arms Bończa, pseud. Błażej Lipowski born c. 1620 in the Przemyśl region, died 25 April 1679 in Przemyśl - castellan of Lwów from 1654, starosta of Krosno, Voivode of Podolia from 1676, senator, deputy, marshal of the Ordinary Sejm in Warsaw in 1652, royal secretary in 1650, royal courtier in 1652.
