The ceremony of farewell to the outstanding composer Wojciech Kilar, who died on 29th December, was held on 4th January this year in Katowice. In Christ the King Cathedral, the artist was farewelled by his family, music circles and politicians. The last farewell ceremony was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński, who emphasized in his speech the composer's connection with Silesia and his ability to combine modern music with Polish folk music.
„In this way, the works of Wojciech Kilar have become epoch-making, timeless works" - he assessed.
"Wojciech Kilar He was the light from Silesia, a voice touching the mystery, and his music - the metronome of the universe and heavenly medicine. It spoke to us with what he himself lived, and what he dressed in the alphabet of notes" - said Archbishop Wiktor Skworc, Metropolitan of Katowice, during Saturday's funeral.
