The Speaker of the Sejm has assumed honorary patronage over the XI Europe-Ukraine Forum

Marek Kuchciński has confirmed his honorary patronage over the 11th edition of the Forum Europe - Ukraine. The conference will be held from March 13 to 14 in Rzeszow.

Current The Speaker of the Sejm is a frequent guest of our forums. For many years he has initiated a series of meetings in Krynica within the framework of the Parliamentary Conference "Carpathian Europe" devoted to strengthening cooperation of the Carpathian region states. It is a forum for discussion and setting directions for cooperation of the Carpathian countries, discussions about the future of the European Union, security on the border between the EU and NATO or about regional development. - It is necessary to strengthen the importance of our region in European politics, to strengthen sovereignty of our countries - said Marek Kuchciński during the XXVII Economic Forum

Last year in Krynica-Zdrój he also commented on Polish-German relations. - They are good under Angela Merkel's government. I would like this cooperation to continue to develop on the basis of "equal with equal, free with free". Poland can look at Germany as an equal partner," he said.

In turn, in 2016 in Krynica, Kuchciński pointed out that there are a number of organizations and institutions in Europe, such as the Schengen Area and the Eurozone, in which the Visegrad Group operates. He said that the Group has already existed for a quarter of a century and is an example of very good cooperation. The Speaker pointed out that it is worth supporting the involvement of societies and local governments aimed at improving infrastructure and cultural exchange. He also spoke about the important role of V4 countries in European structures. According to Kuchciński it is important to strengthen the role of national parliaments in relation to the policy of the European Parliament and the European Commission. The Marshal said in Krynica that parliaments, as they come from democratic elections, should have more influence on the EU legislation.

Marek Kuchciński was born in Przemyśl in 1955. In the 1980s, he organized an independent cultural milieu in Przemyśl, publishing and co-editing the quarterly "Strych Kulturalny" ("Cultural Attic") outside the censorship. In 1985, he was arrested for opposition activity. In 1989, he co-founded the Solidarity Civic Committee in the Przemyśl province. From 1994 to 1999, he was a councillor in Przemyśl, and then, until 2001, he held the office of the Deputy Voivode of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.

Since 2001 he has been a member of the Law and Justice party. From 2010 to 2015, he was Deputy Speaker of the Sejm of the 6th and 7th terms. And in November 2015, he was elected Speaker of the 8th term.

The politician chaired the parliamentary committees: Administration and Internal Affairs and the Committee on Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry. He was a deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of Poland and Ukraine and a member of the Polish-Hungarian Parliamentary Group.
