Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński met with Emir of Qatar Tami ibn Hamad al-Thani. The talks were of an economic and business nature and concerned primarily security.
- Absolutely for Poland, as for every country, security matters are the most important - said the Speaker of the Sejm. - Diversification of supplies of energy sources; gas and oil is a priority task for us. The Qatari government's negotiation skills and ability to use modern technologies are also worth learning. There are a number of forms of cooperation in which the Polish parliamentarians would establish closer contacts," he said.
Poland is open for economic cooperation also with non-EU countries and Qatar is the largest supplier of liquefied gas to the Świnoujście port. The Polish terminal is a strategic investment that is to ensure energy security of the country and reduce its dependence on Russia. It is the only installation of this size in Central and Eastern Europe.
Tamim ibn Hamad al-Thani came to Poland at the invitation of President Andrzej Duda. He also met with Prime Minister Beata Szydło. An agreement on cooperation in the fields of culture and medical sciences and health care was signed today between Poland and Qatar.
