- Without these brave people, our beautiful mountains would not be so welcoming. They are the guides and mountain rescuers who, by risking their lives, make us safer. Every year there is a day when new rescuers take an oath on the Blue Cross. Their oath has been unchanged since 1909. We can be sure that they will keep their word and respond to every call, regardless of the season, day or weather conditions. Among hundreds of Polish GOPR there are people of all professions, scientists and people living from hard physical work, artists and foresters. They are all connected by the mission of bringing help and they are all equal at the moment when they go to rescue somebody. Mountain Guides and Mountain Rescuers Day falls on the calendar on August 10 - the name day of St. Lawrence, their patron saint. The vacations are a period of intensified work, so the time for celebrating and summing up the year comes only after the season. Let's remember about those who remember to protect us throughout the year - Marek Kuchciński.
