Marek Kuchciński on the 77th anniversary of the formation of the Home Army: I pay my respects and profound respect to the Veterans of the Home Army

On February 14, 1942, by order of Commander-in-Chief General Władysław Sikorski the Home Army was established. Its predecessor was the Union of Armed Struggle. The Home Army operated throughout the Second Polish Republic. Glory to the Heroes - wrote on the Twitter Marek Kuchcinski.

In his letters to the Head of the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Repression and to the Director of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN Rzeszów), the Speaker of the Sejm wrote that he pays tribute and pays deep respect to the Home Army veterans, heroic defenders of their homeland. He recalled that 77 years ago, by order of Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces General Władysław Sikorski, the conspiratorial Union of Armed Struggle was transformed into the Home Army, whose activity occupies one of the most glorious pages in the history of the Republic of Poland. The Home Army was the pride of the Polish Underground, surpassing the underground armies of occupied Europe in numbers and organizational excellence.

Marek Kuchciński emphasized that in the history of AK there were many beautiful examples of readiness to sacrifice for the sake of Poland. The most significant are the Operation Tempest and the Warsaw Uprising, during which the soldiers of the Home Army fought against the regular and superior enemy forces. Diversionary and sabotage actions planned by the Directorate of Diversion of the Home Army Headquarters played a significant role in building our road to freedom. The bravery and determination of the Polish Armed Forces in these difficult times showed that every act of resistance against evil had great significance.

The Speaker of the Sejm reminded that the heroism and courage of the Home Army soldiers, as well as their determination in the fight for a free and independent homeland made the communist authorities try to erase their merits from the pages of history for many years. The lives of many of the heroes of today's ceremony were marked by brutal repression and oppressive harassment. - That is why in such moments, when we go back in time to those people and those events, we want to do everything so that the past is never forgotten, so that the ideas paid for by suffering and the lives of thousands of people are permanently embedded in the consciousness of present and future generations. Memory is the common heritage and the bond of our national identity", wrote Marshal Kuchciński.
