General Economic Affairs Committee of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Assembly

- The Central European Initiative, launched 30 years ago, was ahead of its time. When it was founded, it was evident that the time of changes in Europe was coming, and there was a violent search for a recipe to build common bridges and connect Eastern and Western Europe," said Marek Kuchciński, Speaker of the Sejm, opening the meeting of the General Economic Affairs Committee of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Assembly.

The Speaker emphasized that the initiative, which originated in Budapest, first between the four core countries, has expanded all the way from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean, Adriatic Sea. At the moment it has a very high rank in the parliamentary dimension. - I am glad that many others have been created around it, such as the Visegrad Group, the Eastern Partnership and Carpathian Europe. It is clear that we are looking for a solution to the challenges that our countries are facing," Kuchciński emphasized.

The topic of the meeting was: "Infrastructure connections, road and energy, in the region of the Central European Initiative on the North-South axis, with particular attention to the Via Carpatia road project". The discussion focused on transport connections, which are an impulse for activation and economic development of the Central European region. Poland, like the other countries of the Central European Initiative, is involved in numerous transport projects, connecting the Baltic Sea area with the Adriatic and Black Seas and the Balkans. Via Carpatia will connect the Polish and Lithuanian Baltic Sea ports with the Mediterranean and Black Sea ports, thus meeting the transport needs of this part of Europe, and in the longer term will have a positive impact on increasing the attractiveness of Eastern Poland as an investment location (development of industry, trade, services), employment growth, as well as foreign exchange and mobility of citizens.

The meeting was chaired by Bogdan Rzonca, Chairman of the Committee. Participating in the discussion were Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk and Krzysztof Tchórzewski, head of the Ministry of Energy. Among the guests there was also the director of the Museum - Castle in Łańcut Wit Karol Wojtowicz.
