info. PAP: PiS presents plan to celebrate independence anniversaries (Warsaw, 9 January 2014).

The conference "Polish Independence Deed 1914-21", the pilgrimage of the independence camp to Jasna Góra and the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Roman Dmowski - these are some of the plans of the Social Committee for Independence Deed for 2014. They were announced by PiS politicians.

Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski (Law and Justice) During a press conference at the Sejm on Thursday, he stressed that 2014 is the year of celebrations related to the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle by Poles to regain independence. He recalled that in November 2013, the Social Committee for the Deed of Independence, headed by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, was established and the committee's declaration was announced. It appealed, among other things, to all

public institutions to dignify the 100th anniversary of the march of the First Cadre Company by organizing celebrations and undertaking cultural, scientific and educational initiatives.

The committee wants to pay tribute to the generation of Poles who led the restoration of independence in 1914-1921, and to commemorate those who fought militarily and worked on the political conditions for the restoration of the Polish state. The declaration mentions, among others: Jozef Pilsudski, Roman Dmowski, Ignacy Paderewski, Wojciech Korfanty, Wincenty Witos, Maurycy Zamoyski, Ignacy Daszynski, Walery Slawek, Kazimierz Sosnkowski, Jozef Haller and Wladyslaw Sikorski.

MP Ryszard Terlecki emphasized that the activities of the committee to commemorate the act of independence are so important that "there was a very radical reduction in the education of young people in the field of history."

The committee has more than 500 members, including scholars, cultural figures and politicians. Its goal is to initiate and coordinate patriotic celebrations in 2014-18; these will culminate in celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of independence on November 11, 2018.

Among the events planned by the Social Committee for the Act of Independence for 2014, as PiS MP Piotr Babinetz said, is, among others, the conference “Polish Independence Act 1914-21” scheduled for March 22 in the Sejm; May celebrations related to the 79th anniversary of the death of Józef Piłsudski; pilgrimage of the independence camp to Jasna Góra; June scouts rally in Przemyśl and celebration of the 150th anniversary of Roman Dmowski's birth.

Competitions for young people, historical reconstructions and publishing projects are also planned. “It is also about building and strengthening Polish national awareness, the national community and taking care of Polish independence traditions,” said Babinetz.

In June, the Law and Justice Party (PiS) submitted to the Sejm a draft resolution to establish 2014 as the Year of the Deed for Independence to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the march of the 1st Cadre Company under Pilsudski's command on August 6, 1914. The project was dealt with by the Culture and Media Committee, but in the end the Sejm did not vote on it.

On August 2, 1914, Pilsudski obtained permission from Austrian military authorities to mobilize rifle units. On August 3, 1914, the 1st Cadre Company was organized in the Oleandry in Cracow. Numbering 144 soldiers, the unit consisted of students of the Rifleman's Officer Schools and the Polish Rifleman Squads - organizations designed to educate the cadres of the future Polish Army. The First Cadre Company was the first since the end of the uprising

January a regular division of the Polish army.

August 6, 1914. The 1st Cadre Company set out from Krakow's Oleandrów towards the border of the Kingdom of Poland. On August 12 it entered Kielce. According to historians, although militarily it was an episode, the event had great political significance - it was a demonstration of the will to fight for an independent Poland.

On August 16, 1914, in Krakow, all Galician political groups established the Supreme National Committee, which is "the highest instance in the field of military, fiscal and political organization of the Polish armed forces." Under the patronage of the Supreme National Committee, the Polish Legions began to be created. (PAP)
