The meeting was organized as part of the Slovak Presidency of the Visegrad Group. On the Polish side the event was attended by Speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński, Deputy Speaker of the Senate Michał Seweryński, and Head of the Sejm Chancellery Agnieszka Kaczmarska.
The talks in the Slovak capital concerned the future of the European Union, political and institutional values and next year's elections to the European Parliament. They discussed the search for a recipe to strengthen the EU. - Cooperation in the Visegrad Group is an example of good inspiring changes in the entire Union. If we talk about European values, it is worth considering that we should not limit ourselves only to political values, as they are enshrined in the treaties. It is worth starting a discussion on the return to the axiological foundations that have created the European Union, that is the Christian values on which the European civilisation has always been based," said the Speaker of the Sejm during the meeting.
During the discussions held on Thursday, it was emphasized that the Visegrad Group wants to be an active and constructive partner in the process of European integration, and the European Union is a unique project which should support all members. Therefore it is important to search for a common view of the EU. The issues of next year's elections to the European Parliament were also touched upon, among others, the problem of low voter turnout.
The meeting of the Presidents of Parliaments in Bratislava was hosted by the Head of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Andrej Danko. In addition to the Polish and Slovak delegations, the event was attended by the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly László Kövér, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Radek Vondráček, as well as the President of the German Bundestag Wolfgang Schäuble and the Speaker of the French National Assembly Richard Ferrand.
