September 23, 1922. Under Article 1 of the Act, the Sejm authorized the government to \"make all necessary arrangements for the construction of the seaport in Gdynia\". Within a dozen or so years, the port became one of the largest and most modern in Europe. The city, which was built around it, had over 120 thousand inhabitants.<\/p>\n
When Poland gained 147 km of access to the Baltic Sea under the post-war peace treaty, it had no major port, as Gda\u0144sk was to be a Free City under the protectorate of the League of Nations. However, there was too great a need to build a port.<\/p>\n
