We have to prepare a different proposal for Europe; if we manage to do it, we will do something not only for our formations and our political direction, but simply for Europe and our civilization,\" stressed Jaros\u0142aw Kaczy\u0144ski, chairman of the Law and Justice party and deputy prime minister, during the Warsaw Summit, a meeting of the leaders of European conservative and right-wing parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politicians discussed among others cooperation and future of the European Union, including institutional reforms. The discussions were initiated by Jaroslaw Kaczynski, President of Law and Justice party. During his speech on Saturday, he expressed hope that the convention will be a significant part of an important undertaking for the European right and the European Union.

- We undertook this venture some time ago with two goals in mind: the first was to strengthen cooperation, coordination and building a perspective of unity between the two right-wing groups in the European Parliament. (...) There was a second, extremely important goal. Today we are facing new challenges. They are new only partly, because the aspiration to change the character of the EU, to such a change, which in fact means - this term is often used, although in my opinion it is not precise - federalization, has already taken place before,' Kaczy\u0144ski said.

This aspiration, he said, is returning today \"in the form of a very concrete proposal presented quite recently during the negotiations on the formation of the new government of the German Federation, a proposal that has the advantage of being, one might say, sincere, it was formulated directly.\"

- Europe, as a result of German actions - this is also clearly stated - is to move towards this federalization, and this federalization means, among other things, a rejection of sovereignty of individual European countries, those that are today in the EU, in favour of the European sovereignty mentioned in the document,\" he emphasized. He estimated that some countries will lose it more, and others less. - Perhaps some, especially Germany in general,\" he added.

In the opinion of the Law and Justice leader, it is worth drawing conclusions from this proposal. He stressed that it was important that it was proposed by Germans. - This means crossing out the historical memory of the 20th century, the historical memory, which for some time in Europe built a certain type of sensitivity, which led Germany to self-limitation as far as its actions and ambitions are concerned,\" he said. According to Kaczy\u0144ski, this self-limitation is being rejected today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- And what is characteristic (...) is that this type of sensitivity, this type of memory, is still current, and it refers to countries that were victims of Germany in particular during World War II, including Poland,\" he noted. - An attempt is being made to present the victim of unprecedented crimes, unfortunately largely unknown in the West, as an accomplice in the crime,\" he added.

The proposal of federalization also includes the question of leadership,\" he said. - German leadership, leadership that should result from responsibility, but we all know that such language is used from the largest number of German people, this is an objective fact, but it does not have to result in the kind of conclusions that are presented in this document - he said.

According to Kaczy\u0144ski, such a vision of Europe \"is the Europe of a certain type of hierarchy. - In my conviction and the conviction of my friends, my colleagues, this is not good news for Europe, for the future of the European Union. The Community method is undoubtedly the better method here,\" he emphasized. As he pointed out, the vast majority of European nations do not want to get rid of their sovereignty. Creating a center that would ensure equal treatment of various entities with different strengths and locations is, he stressed, a utopian venture and impossible to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second threat besides the loss of sovereignty that the leader of PiS spoke about is the liquidation of democracy. - Democracy, if it is to be something real, if it is to be something that empowers the citizen, that creates demos, i.e. the sovereign, must be based on some common sense, common understanding, based on various cultural codes, on political culture, which is usually embedded in the broader culture of a given country,\" he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- If we get rid of this - and there is no European demos - we are dealing with a situation in which democratic procedures may exist, but they will be empty procedures, procedures that in fact will not create any real democratic mechanism. They will be only a cover for the stronger ones, for the power of the oligarchy understood in one way or another - said the Law and Justice leader.

Another issue discussed by the Law and Justice president is the \"radical threat to freedom\".Today in Europe, not only in Europe, in the whole Western world - that's what it was called at least until recently - freedom is retreating. Political correctness radically limits freedom,\" he pointed out. He pointed out, among other things, that a mechanism of oppression is being built against those who do not want to conform to certain rules - astonishing from the point of view of traditional culture.

- If we were to construct such a Europe, if we were to agree to it, we would create a very soft civilization in a world where hard civilizations exist. They exist very close to where we are sitting. Here it is about 200 kilometers to the eastern borders,\" Kaczynski said. - What would be created in this way would certainly not last long, because these hard civilizations, including those far away, very powerful and increasingly powerful, would have to take advantage of this opportunity, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As he concluded, some kind of response should be prepared to this undertaking. - An answer that would uphold the principle of European unity, because it is needed as a permanent institutionalized system of cooperation between European countries, perhaps even reaching very far in certain matters. I am talking here, above all, about defence matters, about the subjectivity of Europe in the military sphere,\" he noted.

- I think this is a very serious challenge, I think it is possible - maybe not at this conference - but in the course of our next actions, for us to respond to this challenge in a constructive way. That is, that we respond not only with the word 'no' but also with another plan, another proposal for Europe. If we manage to do that, we will do something not only for our formations, not only for our political direction, but simply for Europe, for our civilization, for - as my late brother (president Lech Kaczy\u0144ski - editor's note) used to say - the most man-friendly civilization in the history of the world, something very good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
