Speaker of the Sejm: Thinking about the future, we cannot pursue a multi-speed Union

The summit of the presidents of the Visegrad Group (V4) parliaments has begun in the Sejm. It is an opportunity to develop a common position ahead of the summit in Italy - marking the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome.

The Warsaw summit was the first to include a meeting between Sejm Speaker Marek Kuchcinski and Andrej Danko, chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.

The interlocutors touched on the future of the European Union, including the need to reform the Community. - While looking for what we have in common, what brings us together, we should preserve our separate character of national parliaments," said Speaker Kuchciński. - Thinking about the future, we cannot strive for a multi-speed Union. The Union must be an international organization composed of sovereign states," added Speaker Kuchciński.

They also raised the issue of sorting out the system for supporting national minorities and joint meetings on the protection of land, water, forests and strategic resources.
