The Wielkopolska Uprising: capture of Ławnica

On January 6, 1919 the most important action of the Wielkopolska Uprising took place. As a result Poles captured Ławnica airfield and with it equipment worth 200 million German marks.

It was the greatest conquest in the history of Polish weaponry. Aircraft bodies, wings, propellers, engines and spare parts, armament, bombs, various equipment, workshops... It allowed Poles to form a few air force squadrons - not only in Wielkopolska. The Greater Poland Army had four squadrons already in the spring of 1919, and the transports of planes sent by rail to Warsaw began already in January. Thus, thanks to the "Lavitza Victory", Poland began to have at its disposal a significant military force from the air. It was the planes from £awica that made it possible to put the military aviation of the resurgent Republic of Poland back on its feet. We were able to seek advantage in the air over the Bolshevik army, both in equipment and in the training of pilots, while standing up to mark the eastern borderlands of Poland.
