The European Commission has issued a grant decision for the project "Construction of the S19 Lublin-Rzeszów expressway, section Sokołów Młp. Północ - Stobierna and Świlcza - Rzeszów Południe". This is the 36th decision in the Infrastructure and Environment Programme 2014-2020 (OPI&E 2014-2020).
The project is implemented under Measure 3.1 Development of the TEN-T road network and multimodal transport. The total value of the investment is over PLN 848 million, of which almost PLN 413 million is EU funding.
The project will involve the construction of two sections of the S19 expressway in the Podkarpackie voivodship: from Sokołów Małopolski to Stobierna, and from the Świlcza junction to the Rzeszów Południe junction (so-called "Western Bypass of Rzeszów"). The total length of the designed route is about 19 km. The works are to be completed in the third quarter of 2017.
The section Swilcza - Rzeszow South is a part of so called "Rzeszow bypass" which will serve east-west transit traffic and significant part of north-south traffic in the region.
It will tie together two international routes: E40 and E371. Thanks to these investments, safe sections of express road routes will be created, which will ensure high comfort of long-distance road traffic, improve communication accessibility of Poland and interregional connections within the TEN-T network.
The quality of internal communication links will also be improved and transit traffic in urban areas will be reduced. The Podkarpackie part of the S19 expressway is part of the Via Carpatia route.
